Currently in the Political Studies class, seniors are reading a novel called “1984” by George Orwell, which has to deal with the dictatorship of a government. The main theme of the book is totalitarianism, civil liberty and following the “Big Brother” government. The whole senior class is acting out as if they were in the book and following the government. Seniors post propaganda stating “Join the Thought Police” and “War is peace, freedom is slavery, ignorance is strength.” The teachers, Ms. Tutera and Ms. Berger, wear black every day, along with the students and the whole class manages a pro-party newspaper. There is also a rebel group that has propaganda posted around and a website that states “Join the Resistance!” So, students, don’t be afraid if you see signs posted around with a frightening picture of a man, eyeballs looking at you, or groups of people in black taking your teachers and fellow students and brainwashing them. Just remember, “Big Brother is watching you!” The senior class asks for students not to rip off propaganda posters. Thank you!
